Warm-up walk to reach the Prarayer refuge along the right bank of the lake.
Calculated time is computed with the distance, the height difference, and an average speed of 2.2 mph. For an intermediate walker, this time includes small breaks.
Park at the large Place à Moulin lake car park (S).
Take the wide path along the lake on its left bank.
(D) This track takes you to Prarayer refuge, named Itinerario 9 Rifugio Prarayer. It is a route taken by the inhabitants of this village, so be vigilant of the many cars driving by. The refuge is also an area for walks for the inhabitants of the Aosta Valley, and you will meet many of them on the way.
Continue north-east to the entrance of the Prarayer hamlet (1), and you will soon see the refuge.

An unusual stage today: it starts with a downhill hike before a long climb uphill, a second descent and a ski lift ride followed by a walk over flatland and a bus ride to the lodge.
A high mountain stage which requires hiking boots with crampons to cross the Arolla glacier. You should get an early start for this long stage of the hike.

As it is located in 2 countries, Italy and Switzerland, it also brings you into contact with three European languages: Italian, German and also French in Valais in Switzerland.
A long climb to Torrent Pass before reaching Moiry Lake, then Saint-Luc by bus, Tignousa by cable car and finally Bella Tola by foot.
